Madeira Island What to Pack

Madeira Island might not be what you’d expect. It’s a beautiful little island filled with culture, delectable dishes, and amazing hiking opportunities. So what do you pack for a place like that? Here are six things you’ll want to bring when visiting Madeira.

Warm Weather Clothes

It’s an island, so warm weather clothing is going to be the norm for 98 percent of your trip. Light, airy clothing is best; think T-shirts, tank tops, shorts, and sandals. However, it’s possible to get a cool day during your trip, so pack a few light sweaters or a jacket, just in case.

Small Backpack

Bringing a small backpack with you is a good idea. That way you have a place to store extra water, snacks, and maps as you traverse the island.

Insect Repellent

No one likes to get eaten alive by bugs. If you’re planning to take strolls on the Island, particularly through forested areas, insect repellent is a must. Otherwise, you could spend the rest of your trip itching and scratching.

Camera Gear

Don’t get caught without your camera. You will find so many opportunities to take pictures while on Madeira Island and you don’t want to miss them. If you’re bringing a digital camera, you’ll also want extra memory cards and battery power.

Sunscreen

As you can imagine, the sun can be very powerful on the island. Pack some sunscreen to help protect your skin during your travels. Perhaps consider bringing a sun hat, too. And just in case you do get a little red on your stay, toss aloe vera gel/lotion into your bag, too.

Walking Shoes

You’re going to be spending a lot of time on your feet, so you’ll need to pack a pair of comfortable walking shoes. If you’re planning to hike a little while you’re here, make sure you also pack a pair of nice hiking boots.
